Often there is still uncertainty about whether an electric scooter is safe or not. There are not really clear rules drawn up for electric scooters in the Netherlands. One thing that is clear is that the scooters must be approved by the RDW before they are allowed on the public roads.
For an electric scooter the same rules apply as for a moped, and for this the maximum speed is 25 km/h. With all scooters going faster than that you are required to wear a helmet to ensure you are safe in traffic.
Also, your scooter is safe when it has lights, and at Steppi we always provide good lights on your scooter. If your lighting is broken, just send us a message and we will send you a new scooter within 3 working days.
Furthermore, in the Netherlands and Belgium you are obliged to insure a motorized vehicle at least against third-party liability, and with us this is all arranged for you. In the Netherlands electric scooters are not yet allowed, but in Belgium they are.
All points mentioned above apply to both the Netherlands and Belgium, but with the difference that the steps are not yet legal in the Netherlands.
So if you follow all the rules of a moped you are ‘good to go’ and can use a Steppi!
Do you want a completely safe scooter? Then you’ve come to the right place!
